ENGLISH
This wooden mask from the Brazilian Amazon is sculpted and decorated with a variety of materials native to the jungle, including piranha teeth, fruit seeds, scales, bones, and bird feathers.

The concept that indigenous people have about art is completely different from ours, as they do not have a word that symbolizes art.

However, the objects they create, such as masks, fascinate people due to their originality, exoticism, and mystery. They are pieces loaded with social or ritual symbolism, with a supernatural and sacred character.

Indigenous masks carry supernatural symbolism and are often used in ceremonial rituals.

Indigenous masks in Brazil possess a dual nature, serving as artifacts produced by ordinary individuals while also representing the living figure of the supernatural being they embody.

Currently, there are around 300 indigenous ethnicities in Brazil, each with different behaviours and customs.
